So, I've never actually read the graphic novel, but I had some decent expectations for this film. The trailers had some great imagery, and I DIG superheroes. But I freakin' did not like this film.
The visuals (like 300) were great, but the story felt very disjointed at times. Some scenes made me wonder WTF they were there (the pumpin' sex scene), and I cringed at the all-too-powerful soundtrack at times. Every big mood setting scene seemed to have a hit-you-over-the head song to go along with it.
The Watchmen had a message, but subtlety was not it.

me i liked the end!! even if it's seems that the movie describe humans like HUGE idiots (comedians became crazy when he discovered the secret behind the plan of the "bad" guy of the movie, people seems very stupid and do war for nothin) I liked how the movie was done too , even if some slow motions was too much (when ozy escape from his assassin)

I can sorta get where you're coming from with all your points when I look back on it but I honestly didn't notice it when I was watching so the movie is still classified as good to me.
I admit I love the soundtrack but I'm a sucker for all the music used (especially since Leonard Cohen's version of Hallelujah was used even if I agree that that scene could have been shortened)
I walked out of the cinema very awed and amazed and unsure how I should feel about the ending. Not in that debating whether it was good or not but more should I consider that a 'happy ending' or what?
My housemate first statement upon leaving was 'I feel like I've been brutalised.. but in a good way.' Probably doesn't make a lot of sense but I got what he meant.
And on a final note. Rorschach is pure anti-hero awesome.

Personally I thought this movie was brilliant and is one of my favourite movies. I just ordered the tpb since the last time I read the comics I was around 14 and don't remember any of it.

My boyfriend and I had a lengthy discussion about this. If you had read the comic, the movie flows perfectly. You just require that little bit of extra info to pull everything together. It sucks, but they didn't have time to put it in the movie. It would have been over 6 hours long, I'm told.
Read the comic, watch it again.

I loved the movie. I thought it was very powerful and told the story well. I have read the graphic novel... so perhaps that's why I understand it a bit more. I agree that the soundtrack raised my eyebrows, and the sex scenes were a mite unnecessary, but overall like I said, I loved it. I ALSO agree that Rorschach is pure glory. He's my favorite.

I've graded this movie a B-B+...IF you've read the book AND enjoyed it. Snyder did a good job sticking to the source material IMO. However, he did cut enough character background that made the characters seem one dimensional and just "there" to people that had no idea what the movie(or book) was about. I think the soundtrack followed the book closely and yes the sex scene was a bit much but whatever. One thing that does irritate me is the constant comparison to Dark Knight...Apples and bananas IMO but it seems that Watchmen "was no Dark knight" in a lot of people's books(most of which are not comic fans but believe that Dark Knight was the greatest comic book movie EVER and is the best at "true storytelling"). I won't go into that right now cause I'm in too good of a mood

I'm in the same boat when it comes to reading the novel. I'm more than interested though. Yet I thought the movie was pretty amazing. I do understand how you can not have enjoyed it as much; you and maybe a whole lot of other people. The movie was something different and well, just like any other, it can't please everyone. I do agree with that you said about the sex scene. I too thought it was too long and unecessary. The characters, at least for me, were all easily likable. Maybe there are more details concerning their past and all in the graphic novel, but that should be obvious. I still felt they were deep and human. I thought the screenplay was really good. The story did feel quite big and complex which makes it probably even bigger and more complex in the novel, so we should give them some credit for putting that all together in a movie that didn't last 3 hours. In the end I came out of the Theatres quite pleased to have just watched such a mature superhero movie. I think Hollywood was lacking one of those. Pity they don't check ID in the theatre I went cause there were some kidos in the room that couldn't help themselves from foolish comments whenever Dr. Manhattan showed up or something not supposed to be seen by minors happened.

I have to agree The soundtrack Really pulled me out of the movie at times. And feel that if you read the book it would tie up all the disjointedness. But reading the book before hand had me distracted i knew what was going to happen before it happened.
that doesn't mean i didn't like it the whole 4 hours i enjoyed all of it

Things don't sound good for the movie's performance in the theaters. While it had a decent opening weekend, it's on track to only make 15mil this weekend which is a 70% drop from the opening weekend and a far cry from the normally expected 50% drop for most movies. Hope it ends up performing better in the long run.

I quite enjoyed it. There were a certain few things I thought could have been done a lot better. I read the graphic novel around a year ago, and it flowed along with the film. Hope it does well though.
I believe many walked out because there weren't enough action scenes.

I loved it! Probably my favorite movie and a little better than TDK. IMO Zack Snyder is the American version pf Park Wook-Chan. IMO it's better than the book and I can't wait to get the 4Hour uncut DVD. And Rorschachs death had me on the verge of tears

I saw the movie yesterday and thought it was pretty good. I never read the novel, so I was completely unaware of what to expect, but it had a nice dark feel for a superhero movie that some superhero movies lack, such as the Punisher.
I wouldn't say I was completely "Wowed" by the movie, but I was entertained. The ending was pretty clever with the whole idea of peace. (I'll just leave at that to those who haven't seen it yet) But non-the less, the movie was above average and had a good amount of background story for most of the characters with a decent pacing of action scenes.
