Hmm...your style is good, but I think the reason why you're not getting many hits is because it's very basic stuff. Not that it's a bad thing, but for pieces like portraits, you want to not leave a lot of empty space on your canvas. It kind of distracts from the piece itself. I made the same mistake with my piece here i89.photobucket.com/albums/k223/Shadowblade_2006/Devil_Lady_by_Swordpunk.jpg but since mine is a fully body pic and has a bit of depth to it, it still kinda works I guess, but I'm not completely happy with the empty space. The one with the lady was drawn pretty good, but the BG is pretty hideous. You want to keep the BG a neutral color that doesn't hurt on the eyes. The Green and White just screams "Hey! Look at me instead of the face" lol

thanks for the comment, really like the pose on ur one!!
yea i kno wot u mean bout the blank bkground on the dog and in my new ones im tryin to add colour to the background, but its the compromise between a background that is too plain (like the dog) or too distractin (like the girl)!!! lol
there is actually a reason for the over bright background on the girl one, she comes from Wales and their national flag is green and white like that, but wit a red dragon in the middle so i thought i'd appeal to her patriotism!! lol
cheers for the feedback

Yeah, i kind of figured the bg color was to represent a flag or something, but if you do something like that, try to not make it so bright. I wouldn't recommend it at all to be honest, but there are ways to implement a flag in the BG somehow. I'm no expert, but as an artist, composition is important just as anything else and you just gotta know what looks right and what looks bad. Just look at more portrait art and see how others do theirs and learn from it or get ideas. Nice work overall though

Ark :The thing about DA is your wont get hits unless ppl start seeing your work. You only have a few drawings more would help and you have only been a member for 4 months. I been a member for years and i still dont have many.

I try not to worry about hits so much. Comments are where it's at. I like the dog, but like it was said already, there is a lot of white space and it's a pretty generic type of painting. The one of the girl bugs me, not only because the BG hurts the eyes, but it looks like she's missing the back of her head. The skull is a lot larger than that in the back.
You have some really great vectoring skills!

mistresslegato: thnks for the comment, im not toooo worried about hits, but before i posted here i had 3 between them!! lol so i jus wanted people to see my work! to be honest teh dog one is my fav too, but when doin it my focus was on gettin a likeness and the colourin, so i didnt give the background/composition any thought....and it shows!! . with the girl, i used two diff pics as sources, so maybe coz of that i mite hav lost my way abit. i was tryin to portray the hat jus sittin on top of the head. oh and i've been meanin to ask someone, what does vectoring actually mean, because i've seen it used a few times but dont really kno wot it refers to!? thanks again for the comment

Vector is a term used when lines don't lose its quality no matter how big or small a piece is. For instance: If you created a piece in Illustrator or Flash (two popular vector programs) and you start out pretty small, you don't have to worry about losing its quality if you decided to enlarge it to whatever size you want.
i hope that makes sense. If not just look up vector art in google or even DA and you'll notice the difference between photoshop work and Illustrator/Flash work.
