So I've always loved this guy's movie poster/cover work, I just never knew what his name was. I discovered he had a website today. drewstruzan.comah to use colored pencils like that...man.

Drew Struzan...This guy is THE symbol for the working artist! I can't tell you how much he's influenced and inspired me since I was a kid. Last month we had a small gallery of some of his originals in Alhambra California, and I made it down to check it out. It was the first time I had ever seen an original Drew...and man, let me tell you...you think you love Drew Struzan artwork when you see the posters and website JPGs, or any reproduction...but when you see an original, it blows your mind. Just incredible... And if you're somebody who wants to be an artist for a living...He's the shining example of somebody who reveres his ability and what art can do. He's THE REAL DEAL! Trev

Oh wow an original? Lucky you! I think my only chance of seeing that would be one day when I have 100k to spend on whatever I want I can buy one of the pieces he has for sale.
And yea I agree, he's definitely the man to look up to. Ever since I saw his Indiana Jones artwork when I was little I've just been awed by his ability to portray a person's likeness so well. I hope some day to be that good...although it will take a long time, haha.

Drew Struzan is definitely a hero of mine. A lot of artists can do realism, but he takes it to another level. My theory is that if you do realistic artwork you have to add a little something extra to make the piece more interesting to look at than a photograph. A lot of artists will just use photo reference, and translate that into an illustration without really adding any personal flair to it. This is what I admire most about Drew Struzan, you can always tell it is his work just by looking at it. This is something I strive for as an artist. I like to call it "stylized realism", and I created this term through the studying of Mr. Struzan's work. He has been such a huge inspiration to me, and so many countless artists over the years. It's a shame we won't be seeing anything new from the maestro, as he has decided to retire from commercial illustration.
